Maine Interfaith Power and Light has partnered with the Mars Hill Wind Farm to offer its own of brand of renewable energy certificates (RECs) or what is sometimes referred to as carbon offsets—Maine Wind Watts. By purchasing Maine Wind Watts you offset the polluting effects of your energy use by supporting the development of clean renewable energy. Most traditional power generation relies on burning fossil fuel. Every time we replace existing power with wind, hydro or another renewable resource, the electricity pool becomes cleaner.
Maine Wind Watts are created when wind power generated by the Mars Hill Wind Farm project is substituted for traditional power. Maine Wind Watts represent the environmental benefits or savings in carbon dioxide and other pollutants that occur when clean power from wind replaces burning fossil fuel. Purchase of Maine Wind Watts is a vote for clean power development in Maine. There is enormous potential for wind power in Maine and the people of Maine are our long-term partners as we increase the region's sources of clean and renewable energy. Together we can make clean energy the predominant form of energy in Maine!
